Why tradie websites fail

Most tradie websites were built by a mate's cousin. Customers can tell.

You know the site: a template that takes six seconds to load on a phone, the number buried in the footer, forty unlabelled photos in a gallery, one "Services" page that lists everything and ranks for nothing, and a designer who has not answered a message since the invoice cleared.

Meanwhile the customer standing in a flooded laundry rang the next result.

We build websites for tradies the way you would build a job: to spec, to last, and measured on whether the phone rings.

Quoted upfront. No contracts. No BS.

  1. 01

The phone number is the design

Click-to-call in the thumb zone on every screen, a quote form that takes 30 seconds on a phone, and nothing in the way of either.

  2. 02

    Fast on 4G, on site

Your customer is standing in a flooded laundry on one bar of signal. Custom code, compressed job photos and no page-builder bloat is why recent builds load in under a second.

  3. 03

    Yours, outright

The domain, the site, the photos, the copy. If you ever leave, you take it all with you. We'd rather earn the next job than lock you in.

Trade by trade

Website design for every trade, built around how that trade gets hired.

A plumber's customer is panicking at 2am. A cabinet maker's customer is comparing photos over three weekends. Same site structure, very different first screen.

  • Electricians

Emergency call-outs, switchboard upgrades, EV chargers and solar each get their own page, with licence number and 24/7 status up front.

    Electrician SEO
  • Plumbers

Blocked drains, hot water and burst pipes are 2am searches on a phone. The call button has to be the first thing they see.

    Plumber SEO
  • Glaziers

Shower screens, splashbacks, balustrades and emergency glass repairs, each with its own gallery and quote form.

  • Windscreen repairers

Mobile service areas, insurance claim handling and same-day availability, answered before the customer has to ask.

  • Cabinet makers & joiners

Wardrobes, kitchens and vanities sell on photos. The gallery does the talking and the quote form takes a floor plan.

  • Builders & renovators

Bathroom, kitchen and full-home renovations shown project by project, with the scope and the suburb, so bigger jobs feel safe to enquire about.

  • Roofers

Leak repairs, restorations and re-roofs, with storm-season messaging and a photo upload so you can quote from the ute.

  • Landscapers

Before-and-afters by project type, from retaining walls to full yard makeovers, that make the design fee feel obvious.

  • Painters

Interior, exterior and strata work split into pages, with colour consultation and a fast quote form for repaints.

  • Tilers

Bathrooms, outdoor areas and waterproofing, photographed close enough to show the grout lines you are proud of.

  • Carpenters

Decks, pergolas, fit-outs and repairs on separate pages, so each one ranks and each quote request tells you the job.

  • Concreters

Driveways, slabs and exposed aggregate shown by finish, with a square-metre quote request customers can fill in from the kerb.

Your trade not listed? If your customers find you on a phone and ring you, the same build applies. Ask us.

What's included

Everything a tradie website needs to turn a search into a call.

Built around the phone, not the portfolio.

  • 01 Click-to-call and a quote form built for a phone The number sits in the header and a sticky bar on mobile. The form asks for suburb, job and a photo, and lands in your inbox and your phone before the customer has closed the tab.
  • 02 A page for every service you actually do Switchboard upgrades, hot water, shower screens, splashbacks: one page each, written in the words customers type into Google, not a single "Services" page nobody ranks for.
  • 03 Suburb pages that bring in local jobs Pages for the areas you service, linked to your Google Business Profile, so you show up when someone three suburbs over searches "electrician near me".
  • 04 Job photos treated as proof, not filler Your real before-and-afters, labelled with the suburb and the job, compressed to load fast. No stock photos of a smiling bloke in a spotless hi-vis.
  • 05 Licence numbers, reviews and trust where it counts Licence, insurance, years trading and your Google reviews sit next to the phone number, because that is the moment a customer decides whether to ring you or the next result.
  • 06 Ready for Google Ads from launch day Conversion tracking on calls and forms wired in before go-live, so when you turn ads on you know which suburbs and jobs the money is coming from.

Tradie website FAQ

Questions tradies ask before they commit to a build.

If yours isn't here, call us on (02) 8112 8010. We answer the phone too.

How much does a tradie website cost?

Most tradie websites land between $1,000 and $5,000, quoted upfront and itemised before any work starts. A five-page site for a sole trader (home, about, three service pages, contact) sits at the lower end; see our small business website design page for that. A larger build with a page per service, suburb pages, a job gallery and a booking or quote system sits towards the top. What moves the price is the number of pages and features, not the trade. No hidden fees, and the quote is the price.

How long does it take to build a website for a trade business?

Most builds take 4 to 8 weeks from kickoff to launch. The part that slows tradie sites down is usually content: photos of your work and the details of each service. We handle the writing, and phone photos from the job are fine because we edit and compress them. If you have a quiet season, tell us and we will plan the build around it so you are live before the busy period.

Do I need to write the content or supply professional photos?

No. We write the copy from a phone call with you about the jobs you do, the areas you cover and the questions customers ask. For photos, your own before-and-afters from the job beat any stock image: customers want to see your work, not a model in a clean hi-vis. Send them straight from your phone and we will label, edit and compress them. If you have nothing yet, we launch with what you have and add a gallery as jobs come in.

Will a new website get me to the top of Google?

A fast, properly structured site with a page per service and suburb is the foundation, and it is the reason our builds can rank at all. On its own it is not the whole job. Getting to the top for terms like "electrician Bankstown" also takes a well-managed Google Business Profile, reviews, and ongoing local SEO. We build the site so that work pays off, and we can run it for you, but we will not tell you a website alone guarantees rankings.

Can I add job photos and update the site myself?

Yes. Every site comes with a content management system you can use from a phone or laptop: add photos to the gallery, change your service areas, update prices or hours, and add a page for a new service. We include training and a short written guide. If you would rather not touch it, we offer a support plan where you text us the photos and we do the rest.

I already have a Wix, Squarespace or Facebook page. Do I need a new site?

Sometimes not. Send it over and we will check the load speed on a phone, whether the call button is where a thumb can reach it, how it ranks for your services and suburbs, and where the enquiries are leaking. If a tune-up fixes it, we will say so. If it needs a rebuild, we move your domain across with no downtime, and you own the new site outright. Either way you keep the findings.

Tradie Website Design That Turns Searches Into Booked Jobs

Almost every job a trade business wins from the internet starts the same way: someone with a problem picks up their phone, types a trade and a suburb into Google, and rings the first business that looks legitimate and easy to contact. Websites for tradies exist to win that moment. Not to win a design award, not to tell your life story, but to load instantly, answer the three questions the customer has (do you do this job, do you cover my area, can I trust you) and put a phone number under their thumb.

That is a different brief from the one most web designers work to. A general web design agency builds brochure sites and online stores, and treats a plumber the same as a boutique. We build sites for trades every week, and the difference shows in the details: the call button that stays on screen as you scroll, the quote form that lets a customer attach a photo of the problem, the service page that ranks for "hot water repairs" in a specific suburb rather than a generic "Services" page that ranks for nothing.

What a website for tradies has to do differently

Three things separate a tradie website that produces work from one that just exists. First, speed on a phone. Most trade searches happen on a phone, often on a patchy connection, and every second of load time loses a share of those visitors to the next result. Our builds are custom-coded with no page-builder bloat, which is why recent sites load in under a second and score 95 or better on Google's mobile speed test.

Second, structure. Google ranks pages, not websites. An electrician who lists switchboard upgrades, EV charger installs, safety switches and emergency call-outs on one page competes for none of those searches. Give each service its own page, written in the words customers use, and each one becomes a way in. Add pages for the suburbs you service and the same logic applies to local search.

Third, trust at the point of contact. A customer deciding between two tradies looks for a licence number, real photos of real jobs, and reviews from people like them. Those need to sit next to the phone number, not on a separate "About" page. This is the part of tradie website design that most templates get wrong, and it is usually the difference between an enquiry and a bounce.

Websites for Electricians, Plumbers, Glaziers and Every Trade in Between

The trades we have built for most often are electricians, glaziers, windscreen repairers and cabinet makers, and you can see those sites in the portfolio above. Australian Electrical Force, Sydney Glass Installations, Metro Auto Glass, Windscreen Repair Sydney, Factory Direct Wardrobes, Elite Joinery and Built In Wardrobes Sydney are all custom-coded builds you can click through above. The same approach serves plumbers, builders, roofers, landscapers, painters, tilers, carpenters and concreters, because the customer's behaviour is the same: search on a phone, compare quickly, call.

What changes trade to trade is the first screen. An emergency plumber's site leads with the phone number and "available now", because the customer is standing in water. A cabinet maker's site leads with photography, because the customer is a fortnight away from a decision and comparing finishes. A builder's site leads with completed projects and their scope, because the job is large and the customer needs to feel safe enquiring. We design that first screen around how your trade actually gets hired, then build the rest of the site to the same structure.

If you also want the phone ringing faster than organic rankings allow, the sites are built with conversion tracking in place so Google Ads can be switched on from launch day, and our electrician SEO and plumber SEO pages explain how we take a trade site from live to ranking.

Service pages and suburb pages: how tradies get found

Local search is where trade businesses win or lose. When someone searches "glazier Bankstown", Google shows a map with three businesses, then the organic results. Getting into both takes a Google Business Profile that is complete and reviewed, and a website that has a page relevant to that exact search. A suburb page is not a copy of the homepage with the suburb name swapped in; it is a page about the work you do in that area, the jobs you have done there, and how quickly you can get there. Done properly, a set of suburb pages turns one website into dozens of local doorways, and pairs naturally with ongoing local SEO.

Why Custom-Coded Beats a Tradie Website Template

Wix, Squarespace and the trade-specific template shops all promise a site in a weekend, and for a business that just needs an address on the internet, that is fine. The problems arrive when you want the site to bring in work. Templates carry scripts and styles for features you will never use, which is why they are slow on a phone. Their structure is fixed, so adding a proper page per service and suburb becomes a fight. And the hosting, the domain and sometimes the content are tied to the platform, so leaving means starting again.

A custom-coded tradie website has none of that weight. Every line of code is there because your site needs it. Pages can be added as your services grow. The site, the domain and the content are yours, hosted where you choose, and you can take them anywhere. It costs more than a weekend template, and we quote that cost upfront, itemised, before any work starts. Typical builds sit between $1,000 and $5,000 depending on pages and features, and for a simple sole-trader site our small business website design page covers the lower end.

Working with a Sydney team that builds for trades every week

We are based in Bankstown and most of the trade businesses we work with are across Sydney, with others around Australia. That local base matters for a tradie website in a practical way: we know which suburbs people actually search, how far customers will travel for a glazier versus a plumber, and what a licence number needs to look like on a NSW site. If you want to see how that plays out in a specific area, our web design Bankstown and web design Liverpool pages go into detail, and the main website design page covers what every build includes regardless of industry.

The process is straightforward. A phone call about the jobs you do and the areas you cover. A fixed quote. A build of four to eight weeks while you keep working, with photos sent from your phone as jobs come in. Launch, training on how to update it yourself, and support after go-live if you want it. No contracts, no hosting hostages, and a website that is judged the way you judge a job: on whether it works.

Got a website that never rings? Send it over.

Send us your current site, or your Facebook page if that is all you have. We'll check the speed on a phone, where the call button sits and where the enquiries are leaking, then tell you straight whether it needs a tune-up or a rebuild and what that costs. The findings are yours to keep either way.

Quoted upfront · No lock-in contracts
